Abstract

2H-Chromenes are crucial and immensely important pharmaceutically active oxygenated heterocyclic compounds possess as key skeleton of verities bioactive natural products. In spite of existence of several review articles based on the synthesis of 2H-Chromenes using metal catalyzed classical methods, there is still demand of literature review comprising metal free protocol. This article aims to offer a comprehensive idea on remarkable advances in the construction of 2H-Chromene derivatives using metal free conditions. The organic reactions such as base, acid or dual catalyzed reactions, Multicomponent reactions (MCRs), Organocatalytic reactions, Microwave assisted reactions, Pericyclic reactions, Light induced catalysis, molecular Iodine mediated reactions, Oxidation, Enzyme catalyzed reactions etc have been well demonstrated in this metal free maiden review on 2H-Chromenes. In some cases, the detailed mechanistic pathway with describing the role of catalyst has been accentuated. We firmly believe that this review article may be lighting the prospective of application of metal free synthesis of 2H-Chromenes and inspire synthetic organic chemists for the construction of aforesaid skeleton through metal free eco-friendly protocols.
