Abstract
The diversity of mononuclear phagocytes has made it difficult to ascribe cellular functions to sub-populations using conventional loss-of-function approaches. In this issue of Immunity, Thomas etal. (2016) highlight the value of excising enhancer domains, effectively depleting defined lineages without altering other cellular physiology.
