Abstract

During the past 10 years, the field of laryngology has undergone revolutionary changes. With the advent of vastly improved modalities for examining the larynx, such as high-resolution computed tomographic scanning, magnetic resonance imaging, flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy, videolaryngoscopy, and videostroboscopy, the rapid proliferation of new methods for treating laryngeal disease was inevitable. Examples of this amazing progress include new methods of partial laryngectomy for voice preservation, phonosurgical procedures, and voice rehabilitation after total laryngectomy. Thus, publication of a comprehensive text to provide a modern perspective on the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal disease is appropriate.
