Abstract

The philologist and diarist Victor Klemperer documented the perversion of the German language under the Nazis in his Lingua Tertii Imperii. The book is not just a chilling account of the Nazi propaganda program. It also documents the increasingly desperate plight of Klemperer and his wife during the period, the compounding humiliations they suffered, and Klemperer’s fears of deportation.
