Abstract

The volume isotopic shift of the K α 1 X-rays was measured for 140Ce– 142Ce. From the result ΔE V = 51.4±1.9 meV the difference in the mean square nuclear charge radii was derived: Δ〈 r 2〉 = 0.274 ± 0.010 fm 2. By using this value to normalize optical isotopic shift data, the differences in the charge radii of all stable Ce isotopes are obtained.
