Abstract

A wave process induced by a plane wave in a vertically inhomogeneous half-space is considered. A traditional geophysical inverse problem is that of recovering the acoustic impedance if the shape of incident wave and the corresponding surface seismogram are known. The classical algorithm for solving this problem based on the reconstruction of the Sturm–Liouville differential operator by using its spectral function is very sensitive to errors in the low-frequency range. We present a regularization method based on approximate reconstruction of the medium with the use of the phase velocities of Love waves.
