Abstract

As suggested by the tetrahedron in Fig.1, there are obvious relationships between enzyme mechanism, protein structure, and the design of enzyme inhibitors and mimics. Some of the edges of this tetrahedron are stronger than others, and between some of the vertices information flows in one direction more than the other. However, the accelerating progress in protein structure determination and the recently made connection between inhibitor and catalyst design are beginning to address this imbalance. In this presentation, a number of facets of our research will be discussed in which the relationships depicted in Fig.1 are important.
