Abstract

Systems of quality control must be developed to form subsystems of computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems. This paper discusses the role of integrated quality systems in computer-integrated manufacture. A definition is proposed for integrated systems of quality control. Three different aspects of quality system integration are identified and implications of each are considered. The design of integrated quality systems using a structured modelling technique is discussed. The use of a distributed quality database is suggested as a solution to quality data management problems in CIMS, and the possible contents of such a database are described.
