Abstract

ABSTRACT Several various drilling fluid systems, namely, salt mud as a based sample, salt/functionalized nanoporous graphene, salt/functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes and salt/both nanomaterials were made and analyzed for improving of rheological characteristics and mud filtration properties. 1.5 wt% of FMWCNTs and 0.7 wt% of FNPG mixed separately in the base mud system illustrated +15% and +38% changes in yield point compared with basic mud. However, when the yield point was measured in sample containing both NPs, it was recognized that up to +61% change occurred. Filtrate loss amounts remarkably reduced by 55% at normal and 69,74% at 150 and 230°C, respectively. The results showed that the mixture of both NPs increased the plastic viscosity up to 4, 25, and 69% compared to basic mud at normal, 150 and 230°C, respectively. It is concluded from the experimental research that this mixture can be an optimum option for improving mud performance. Moreover, it is claimed this is the first result ever report in which nano mixture especially nanoporous graphene is consumed for improving-improved water-based mud’s performance in the hydrocarbon field.
