Abstract

Data on the influence of gas filling, cathode material, geometrical parameters, the high voltage supplied and the primary ionization upon the operation of a thin (about 3 mm) chamber working in high current modes are presented. The higher hydrocarbons were found to be equivalent with n-pantene. Mixtures of CO 2 + (higher hydrocarbons) are supposed to work in a mode different from both Geiger and self-quenching streamer mode.
