Abstract

Although rectal bleeding in infants is often minor, either as the result of swallowed maternal blood or anal fissure there is the potential for the patient to be significantly unwell and require urgent management. This article discusses common and rarer but not to be missed causes of rectal bleeding in infants and their immediate management. The aim is to provide a guide for the general paediatrician.
