Abstract
THE frequency and characteristics of aphakic retinal detachments have long been of interest. Historically, aphakic retinal detachments have been reported to comprise 5-33% of retinal detachment series.1 Retinal referral centers in the United States report an incidence of aphakic retinal detachments of about 25% in several large series.2•4 The incidence of retinal detachment in the general population is reported as 0.01%.5•6 This small incidence gives emphasis to the importance of this complication following cataract surgery.
