Abstract

case had been planned with the aid of a CT scan. Her postoperative panoramic radiograph did not indicate violation of the inferior alveolar canal. One month after implant placement, this patient reported no improvement in her nerve dysfunction. A postoperative CT scan was obtained that showed that there was no violation of the inferior alveolar canal by the implants, nor did there appear to have been any violation of the canal during implant preparation. the mandible, the anterior loop of the mental nerve must be taken into consideration in determining the placement of the most posterior implant. In the atrophic mandible, the mental nerve can exit from the superior surface of the mandible and can inadvertently be injured during surgical exposure of the mandibular symphysis.
