Abstract

The rate and causes of repeat x-ray examinations secondary to inadequate technical quality were recorded for a seven-week period at a 600-bcd community hospital. An overall repeat rate of 5.3% was found. Two thirds of all repeated films were secondary to improper exposure or positioning errors, factors which should be readily correctable. However, it is evident in this study of 23,638 exposures that the frequency of repeat examinations does not contribute significantly to radiation dosage or cost of examinations.
