The article examines the fundamental importance of sound mathematical preparation for the successful study of higher mathematics and physics courses by students of higher education institutions. The key aspects of the relationship between basic mathematical knowledge and the complexity of higher mathematics and physical disciplines are analyzed. The impact of weak basic preparation on academic success is considered and methods for improving learning efficiency are proposed. In the modern educational space where exact sciences are beginning to play a key role in the training of qualified specialists in engineering, technical, computer and natural sciences, the problem of insufficient basic mathematical training is becoming increasingly relevant. Often, students, entering higher education institutions, demonstrate gaps in knowledge of elementary algebra, trigonometry, geometry and the basics of analysis, which creates significant obstacles to consolidating complex academic concepts. The article analyzes key aspects of the relationship between strong school mathematical knowledge and the ability of students to effectively master the material of higher mathematics, which includes differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, etc. Special attention is paid to the influence of this knowledge on the understanding and application of physical laws, the latter physics is largely based on the mathematical apparatus. Typical difficulties that students encounter due to weak basic training are studied, such as problems with algebraic transformations, working with fractions, trigonometric functions, and the logic of mathematical proofs. The study also covers the negative consequences of insufficient training, including a decrease in academic performance, student demotivation, difficulties in adapting to the intensive pace of higher education, and, in some cases, expulsion. Based on the analysis of Ukrainian and foreign scientific sources, as well as general teaching experience, effective methods and practical recommendations are proposed to improve the effectiveness of learning and overcome existing gaps. Among them are the introduction of diagnostic testing, the organization of remedial courses, strengthening individual work with students, the use of interdisciplinary connections, and the formation of sustainable motivation to study the exact sciences. The article emphasizes the need for a systematic approach to solving this problem at all levels of the educational process in order to ensure high quality training of future specialists

MODERN APPROACHES TO DESIGNING CONTENT EDUCATION IN CRISIS SITUATIONS
  • Apr 1, 2023
  • Olena Dzhedzhula

Today, the existence of independent Ukraine as a civilized country with a European vector of development is under threat. For higher education, the problem of training qualified specialists capable of rebuilding the agricultural sector of our country is extremely acute. After all, military aggression led to the loss of human potential, including the displacement of participants in the educational process within Ukraine and abroad (more than 2,000 educational institutions were damaged by bombings and shelling, more than 200 of them were completely destroyed); among pupils/students and teachers/teachers there are killed and wounded (since the beginning of the war, as of mid-August 2022, 361 children died and 711 were wounded; more than 8 million people crossed Ukraine). A significant number of higher education institutions were completely or partially destroyed (as of July 22, 2022, 7 institutions of higher education and 9 institutions of professional pre-higher education were completely destroyed, 46 institutions of higher and postgraduate pedagogical education, 69 institutions of professional pre-higher education were damaged. The greatest destruction and damage was experienced by institutions of higher education and professional pre-higher education of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia regions. Part of the students lost full access to educational resources, although in the majority of institutions the educational process during the period of martial law was organized in the form of distance learning.Higher agricultural education also suffered significant losses. In order to organize safe education, universities were relocated from the occupied territories, including agricultural higher education institutions: Dmytro Motornyi Tavri State University of Agrotechnology, Luhansk National Agrarian University (joined to Volodymyr Dal East Ukrainian National University by a separate order of the Ministry); Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University, etc. Therefore, we consider it urgent to search for innovative ways of high-quality professional training of future specialists during the war and after its end in Ukraine. The subject of the research is designing the content of education in crisis situations.Overcoming the crisis in higher education caused by the war requires decisive action. Therefore, when developing educational resources, university teachers should focus on the Strategy for the Development of Higher Education in Ukraine for 2022–2032 and the Operational Plan for its Implementation in 2022–2024. This strategic document defines the priorities of the higher education system at the current stage of development of society and the country's economy, as well as the main characteristics that will be formed by 2032. The goals and objectives of the Strategy are a detailed road map for rebuilding and continuing the reform of the higher education system in the post-war period. Completing the tasks defined by the Strategy will reduce the destructive consequences caused by the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of independent Ukraine.Modern realities require changes in the organization of the educational process in higher education. The purpose of the article is to study the conceptual foundations of designing the content of higher education, taking into account the peculiarities of the educational process in crisis conditions. The research methodology is based on basic research in the philosophy, pedagogy and psychology of professional education; the general psycho-pedagogical theory of learning and cognition, in particular about the relationship between theory and practice; on the conceptual positions of pedagogy and psychology regarding the role of computer-oriented methods, means and forms of education in the professional training of future specialists in higher education, on person-oriented, systemic, integrative and professional approaches to teaching and education of students of higher education institutions. To solve the research tasks, the study used a complex: theoretical – analysis of philosophical, pedagogical, psychological, methodical literature and information resources of the Internet, which highlight the problems of forming the content of education in the process of professional training of future specialists; analysis of domestic and foreign experience and conceptual approaches to the study of this problem; analysis of the peculiarities of the educational process in crisis conditions.Conclusions. The war has intensified and expanded the challenges already facing education due to the COVID-19 epidemic. For the Ukrainian educational system, this test became a kind of incentive that opened a window of new opportunities, becoming a catalyst for long-overdue modernization changes in education. First of all, it is about the development of digital and distance education, in particular online. In accordance with these forms of education, the content of education should be adapted. When designing the content of higher education, it is necessary to take into account the integrative nature of modern educational disciplines, their purposeful orientation towards holistic and systematic preparation for professional activity. One of the important conditions for designing the content of education is to take into account the needs of the labor market in our country in the near future and focus on Ukraine's entry into the European educational space.

  • Sergey G Ezhov + 6 more

The paper is devoted to the problem of pedagogical management of the quality of training for physical education specialists in higher education: the authors have determined theoretical and methodological foundations of the problem, a conceptual model and pedagogical conditions for its implementation have been presented. The authors of the paper have proved that professional expectations are a construct that anticipates actions aimed at building professional competence, but at the same time it is a product of the processes of mastering the education content. The expectation approach suggests considering the pedagogical management of the quality of training for specialists in physical education at a pedagogical university as a process of changing and shaping professional expectations of the subject of the educational process. In our study, the expectation approach is based on the conceptual ideas of the axiological, competence, and integrative constituent elements. The identified axiological, competence, and integrative constituent elements of the expectation approach determine the multilevel and hierarchical nature of the theoretical and methodological fundamentals of pedagogical management of the quality of training for physical education specialists including the general scientific, concrete scientific, methodological and technological levels of the methodology. © 2019 University of Alicante.

  • Norain Mansor + 3 more

IntroductionThe increasing trend of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among the young population is a significant public health problem. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge on STIs among students in higher education institutions and its predicting factors, in Melaka.MethodologyA cross-sectional study was conducted among 600 students from higher education institutions in Melaka aged between 18 to 30 years old. Multistage sampling of the institutions was performed. Valid and reliable self-administered questionnaire in the national language, Bahasa Malaysia, was used as to collect data on sociodemographic, personal background, knowledge on STIs and sources of information for STIs. Univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS software version 25.ResultsThe response rate for this study was 88%. The mean knowledge score was 24.1 ±5.1 out of 38. HIV was the most known STIs while gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis and chlamydial infections were among the least known STIs. Oral intercourse was the least known sexual activity that could transmit STIs. Higher proportion of respondents had correct knowledge on control and preventive measures of STIs (between 78% and 95%) compared to correct knowledge on sign and symptoms of STIs (between 8.5% and 67.8%). More than 90% of the respondents were unaware that a person infected with STIs could be symptom free. Four variables were identified as the determinants of the knowledge on STIs, which were level of education, place of stay, history of sexual and reproductive health education and involvement in STIs awareness programs (F (4,445) = 11.405, p <0.001, R2 = 0.093).ConclusionsThe knowledge on STIs among students in higher education institutions was unsatisfactory. The existing sexual education programs can be strengthened by delivering more information on other STIs rather than focusing on HIV only. The future program should focus on students of diploma and/or skill certificate and staying off-campus.

  • T H Vasilenko + 1 more

Actuality of the conducted research is practically oriented character. Without the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the field of higher education, it is impossible to carry out qualitative training of specialists in engineering, the results of which are necessary for the implementation of a national strategy for modernizing the economy and forming a progressive state of European type. Formulation of the task - the specificity of the use of ICT in the system of higher education has not been studied sufficiently. ICT form a complex environment, which includes a lot of information objects and the links between them. It can be argued that the structural and functional analysis of the use of ICT in higher education is the basis of the theoretical justification in the formation of technical professionalism of future engineers. ICTs form a complex system, which includes not only technical and software-hardware capabilities, but also psycho-pedagogical, organizational, methodological. Without taking into account all of these components, as well as the needs of the subjects of the educational process, the use of ICT tools (especially centralized) may be accompanied by risks and negatively affect the quality of high education. An analysis of recent research and publications-is actively exploring the experience of using ICT in high school, it is possible to distinguish the work of foreign specialists D. Stevenson, G. Reinhold, E. Wenger, S. Papierta, I. Zakharova, E. Patarakina, A. Khutorskogo, E. Polat The founders of this scientific direction in our country were M. I. Zhaldak, Y. I.Mashbits. The recent significant increase in the number of studies, the subject of which was the use of information and communication technologies in the educational process. Tsitemi in Ukraine is dedicated to the study of such scholars as V. Yu. Bykov, Ya.V. Bulakhova, O.M. Bondarenko, V.F. Zabolotny, G.O. Kozlakova, O. Moiko, O. Naumenko, Yu.Burovitskaya, I. Stavyts'ka, O.P. Pinchuk, O.V. Shestopal and others. Selection of unexplored parts of the general problem. The use of information technologies in the educational process is the foundation of innovative development of the educational system. The rapid development of ICT provides not only significant pace of innovative progress, but also requires the definition (limitation) of information resources that guarantee the quality of learning, the choice of techniques that are in line with the general strategy for the formation of professional competences. Therefore, the problem of choosing an approach to the process of learning with the use of ICTs remains one of the main tasks of education. Research methods. In theory and practice, the study of the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in high school uses empirical methods of collecting and analyzing information based on the results of the survey of 120 students. Presenting main material. The essence of professionalism of future specialists of the technical direction is revealed. The scientific point of view on the professionalism of the engineer is presented. The peculiarities of formation of the basis of technical professionalism of future engineers in the process of studying at a higher school are theoretically grounded. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results of empirical researches of this problem is presented. The practical significance of the research topic is that the innovative approaches to the training of specialists in engineering specialties are differentiated, which differentiate in the educational concepts of teaching in higher educational institutions of European countries

There has been a rise in Elective Home Education (EHE) as a result of the global pandemic and with this, an anticipated increase in EHE students applying to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). With this increase, it is vital institutions acknowledge and prepare for widening accessibility. It is the expectation that institutions are inclusive, and this study opens discussions on the inclusivity of this applicant group and the knowledge exchange and collaboration opportunities to facilitate change. The aims of this study were to identify potential barriers in accessing HEIs for EHE students and to gain insight into the experiences of these participants. This study will create a basis for developing policies and practices to work towards building an inclusive transitional process into HEIs for all students and be instrumental in building bridges between mainstream and alternative education. Through a semi-structured interview with a HEI applicant, an online survey with 3 HEI applicants and 2 staff from admissions teams at HEIs in England, and a document analysis on the HEI websites, it is highlighted that more work is needed on improving the inclusivity at these establishments and further study into accessing EHE students for research purposes should be sought. Recommendations are shared.

The rapid development of technology, particularly in the field of social media, has proven beneficial in identifying entrepreneurial opportunities among Higher Education Institutions (HEI) students. Students with heightened entrepreneurial alertness are more attuned to environmental changes that create new business prospects, especially in the evolving technological landscape. However, the entrepreneurial benefits of social media usage are not universally recognized by students. Hence, this study aims to ascertain the level of benefits derived from social media usage, entrepreneurial alertness and opportunities among HEI students. A total of 353 students from public and private HEI in Kelantan participated in this survey-based study, employing questionnaires as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using SPSS 29 software .The study findings reveal that the benefits of social media usage among students are at a high level. Besides, the levels of entrepreneurial alertness and opportunities are moderately high. Moreover, a positive and significant correlation exists between the benefits of social media usage, entrepreneurial alertness, and entrepreneurial opportunities among HEI students. Consequently, proactive measures should be taken by HEI to enhance entrepreneurial education modules in line with current needs. This will ensure that students are more receptive to entrepreneurship, recognizing social media usage as an advantage in creating business opportunities on a broader, global scale.
