Abstract

In this paper, we study the impact of network structure in the economic and environmental benefits to assess the opportunities offered by shippers horizontal collaboration in a distribution system. We analyze three network configurations for distribution which differ in the location of satellites (intermediate depots) within the distribution area. We exploit a bi-objective mathematical model for a two echelon location routing problem (2E-LRP) to test if partners fit for the collaboration or not. Extended known instances reflecting the real distribution in urban area are regenerated to evaluate several goods' delivery strategies. The goal is to present to decision makers a preliminary mechanism to gain general insights into beneficial network structure for the coalition and to measure the sustainability performance of coalition during the design phase of the network.
