The phenomenon of clickbait news dissemination in online media has become a serious concern due to its potential influence on readers’ mindsets and behavior, particularly within Muslim communities. This study aims to analyze the impact of clickbait news on readers of PALTV.disway.id in Palembang City from the perspective of Islamic communication. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews with active readers, journalists, and religious figures, as well as documentation analysis. The findings indicate that clickbait news frequently leads to information misunderstanding and a decline in the quality of readers’ Islamic understanding, especially when headlines are not aligned with the content. From the perspective of Islamic communication, such practices contradict the principles of ṣidq (truthfulness), tablīgh (transparency), and amānah (trustworthiness) in information dissemination. Another finding reveals an increased level of skepticism toward media outlets that present Islamic issues, driven by the frequent use of provocative headlines unsupported by adequate content. This study highlights the urgency of integrity in Islamic journalism and the importance of media literacy within society. The integration of digital media analysis with Islamic communication principles constitutes the originality of this research. The results are expected to provide practical contributions for media practitioners, government institutions, and da‘wah organizations in formulating more ethical communication strategies, as well as academic contributions to the development of Islamic communication studies in the digital era.

This study examines the management of the Islamic Propagation Council of Indonesia (DDII) in the context of developing an Islamic society in Metro. In the era of modernization, Islamic propagation organizations face challenges in re-examining their roles and functions, especially when dealing with complex political and social dynamics. As a structural Islamic propagation institution, DDII has a strategic position in shaping the order of Islamic life through the approach of Islamic propagation bi al-lisān and bi al-hāl. This study aims to analyze three main aspects: the concept of Islamic propagation of DDII, Islamic propagation management in developing Islamic society, and the implementation of the concept of developing Islamic society in Metro City. Using a qualitative approach with a single instrumental case study method, this study involved participant observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. Key informants included the leadership of DDII Metro City, senior figures of the organization, religious figures, and the local Muslim community. The results of the study indicate that DDII has developed an adaptive and inclusive Islamic propagation model with a focus on strengthening aqidah, empowering the economy of the community, and optimizing the role of the mosque. In the digital era, DDII responded to the challenges by developing digital da'wah infrastructure and improving the competence of da'i in the use of modern technology. Despite facing various challenges, including the shifting role of da'wah organizations in the context of contemporary politics, DDII managed to maintain its position as a moral force that contributed to the development of Islamic society and the integrity of the nation. This study provides theoretical contributions in the development of structural da'wah management and practical contributions for stakeholders in optimizing the role of da'wah for the development of Islamic society

Legal Protection of the Freedom to Preach in the Digital Era: An Islamic Communication and ITE Law Perspective
  • Jun 30, 2025
  • Journal of Mujaddid Nusantara
  • Ratna Rintaningrum + 2 more

The advancement of information technology has significantly transformed the landscape of Islamic preaching (dakwah), shifting from conventional pulpit-based forums to digital platforms such as social media, YouTube, and podcasts. On one hand, this transformation offers vast opportunities for the rapid and global dissemination of Islamic values. On the other hand, digital preaching also faces serious challenges, particularly in terms of legal regulation and the risk of criminalization. This study aims to examine the legal protection of the freedom to preach in the digital era from the perspectives of Islamic communication and the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law). This research employs a qualitative method using a normative juridical and Islamic communication approach. Data were collected through a literature review of statutory regulations, legal documents, Islamic preaching literature, and cases involving digital preaching. The findings reveal that the freedom to preach is a constitutional right guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. However, in practice, this freedom is vulnerable to restriction by certain articles of the ITE Law, particularly those with ambiguous interpretations. These provisions potentially criminalize preaching content deemed provocative or sensitive to issues of ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup relations (SARA), even when delivered within a legitimate religious context. Therefore, balanced legal protection is urgently needed, involving both the revision of ambiguous provisions within the ITE Law and the development of digital preaching ethics grounded in Islamic communication principles: tabayyun (verification), hikmah (wisdom), and mau‘izhah hasanah (good counsel). This study recommends harmonizing the freedom of preaching with digital regulations to ensure a safe, just, and dignified preaching space in the era of technology.

Bazı İslami Dergiler Örnekleminde Carl Gustav Jung: Nitel Bir Araştırma

  • Beyazıt Yaşar Seyhan

Even during the first establishment of the Republic (with the expression of Balaban), "the science of spirituality (=psychology) that talks about the spiritual existence of man" has always been interesting by the writers of that period. Especially since the 1940s, in some scientific, moral, religious and literary journals published in Turkey, the views of Western psychologists such as Carl Gustav Jung, who are famous in the psychology of religion, were explained. In this research, it has been tried to analyze how C. G. Jung and his views are handled in these journals. The journals discussed in the research are as follows: "Sebilürreşad", "Muslim Voice", "Tawhid", "New Ground", "Orbit", "Academy", "Young", "Cultural World", "Monthly" and "Kur'ani Hayat”. In our research, the approach to Jung and his views in these examined journals was investigated and some results were obtained. Accordingly, Jung has a positive phenomenon accepted by the Islamic community, as some Islamic journals acknowledge that Jung is different from their peers”. All Islamic journals used Jung. Although some criticize Jung to strengthen their own claims by pointing to Jung's authority, he used Jung to "guide his target audience" because he considered it closer to Islamic understanding than his Western counterparts. Islamic journals never used Jung's concepts of "persona", "anima-animus" and "self" in their articles. But they gave a lot of place to Jung's concepts such as "religion", "God", "archetype" and "collective unconscious". Especially since they see the concept of “collective unconscious” as an Islamic value, they have embraced it more. Islamic journals acknowledge Jung as the "authority". While this "authority" is the "strengthener" of its own claims based on some Islamic journals, it is a "model" for some Islamic journals whose aspects should be taken in accordance with their worldview. It is clear that Islamic journals do not have a scientific style and purpose when using Jung. It was concluded that Islamic journals approached Jung's concepts in the form of "ethnocentric" and "circular reasoning". It has emerged that Islamic journals that act with the logic of "Take what works and leave what does not work" and those who defend Islamic psychology are similar to the logic of "take the positive side of the West that fits the Islamic perspective" to Jung and his views. Key Words: Islamic Journals, Carl Gustav Jung, Jung's Views, The Jungian Phenomenon, The Collective Unconscious, Document Analysis.

This study aims to determine the effect of Islamic communication conducted by students on the level of Islamic understanding among the community surrounding Islamic boarding schools. As agents of da'wah, students play a crucial role in conveying Islamic values in a way that is accessible and relevant to the community. This research employs a quantitative associative approach using the survey method. Data were collected from 45 respondents who have been directly exposed to student-led da'wah activities. The validity test confirmed that all questionnaire items were appropriate and valid. Descriptive statistical analysis showed high average scores for both variables: Islamic communication (mean = 39.16; SD = 6.03) and community Islamic understanding (mean = 42.73; SD = 4.90). The Pearson correlation test indicated a strong and significant positive relationship (r = 0.636, p < 0.01) between the two variables. Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis yielded the equation Y = 22.497 + 0.517X with an R² value of 0.404, meaning that 40.4% of the variance in Islamic understanding can be explained by the effectiveness of student communication. These findings highlight the importance of student engagement in grassroots Islamic communication and its measurable impact on public religious understanding

The Complicated Digital Fandom: Empowerment and Exploitation of Fans in Digital Media Era
  • Jan 1, 2020
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Zihan Wang

Over the past several decades, the once despised fans have been introduced to the central stage of audience study, challenging people’s stereotype about fans. Fans are considered as the most active and visible audiences since they are active producers rather than passive consumers. With the pervasiveness of the digital media, fans are provided with more opportunities to engage with the media production and challenge the authority of media industry. However, there are still some scholars argue that fans in digital era are prone to be exploited by media industry as free labor. These two contradictory aspects illustrate the main characteristics of fans in digital media era. This research aims to explore the reconfigured relationships between fans and professional media producers, critically discussing the extent to which fans are empowered and exploited in the digital media era. The analysis in this paper is organized from three main aspects: first, the transformation of fans’ images in the ever-changing media landscapes is illustrated, emphasizing the trend that fans are increasingly considered to be more active and influential in the media production process; second, the ways that fans engage with media production in the digital media era are explored in details, which supports the opinion that fans are empowered in digital media era; third, the emerging exploitations of fans online practice are demonstrated by employing the concept of free labor. By critically discussing both the empowerment and exploitation of fans in digital media era, in this paper, it is concluded that although the increasing productivity and influence of fans imply the reconfigured relationships between fans and media producers, the emerging exploitation of fans’ free labor should not be ignored which indicates that the power discrepancy between fans and media producers still exists. The empowerment and exploitation of fans in digital media era should not be considered as a zero-gum game. Since the digital fandom is more complicated than before, the binary opposition between empowerment and exploitation should be revisited and revised. Within the context of the emerging digital economy, fans and media producers are continuously negotiating with each other.

The rapid development of information and communication technologies has brought about fundamental changes in the landscape of contemporary political communication. Digital mass media not only function as channels for the dissemination of political information but also serve as arenas for meaning construction, narrative production, and the negotiation of political perspectives at the societal level. This study aims to analyze the role of digital mass media in shaping public political views and to examine the patterns of interaction among media institutions, political actors, and the public within the context of digital democracy. The research employs a systematic literature review method by examining relevant and reputable scholarly sources, including indexed national and international journals, academic books, research reports, and policy articles published between 2020 and 2025. The findings indicate that digital mass media exert a significant influence on the formation of public political opinion through mechanisms of framing, agenda setting, and political narrative construction. The interactive nature of digital media enables active public participation in political discourse, contributing to the emergence of more deliberative and participatory patterns of political engagement. However, this dynamic also presents serious challenges, including opinion polarization, information bias, and the spread of misinformation, which have the potential to undermine the quality of public deliberation. This study underscores the importance of strengthening media literacy and political literacy as essential prerequisites for critical and responsible political participation. Furthermore, digital mass media are expected to fulfil their ethical and normative functions by providing accurate, balanced, and contextualized information. Theoretically, this article contributes to the development of political communication studies and digital media research, while also offering practical implications for enhancing the quality of democracy in the digital era.

The Principle of Divinity in Islamic Communication Perspective
  • Jul 17, 2023
  • Mediakita
  • Walisyah Tengku + 2 more

This research aims to highlight a core element in an Islamic Communication principle as the Basic Principle, namely the Principle of Divinity, which originated by Zainal Arifin (2021). He intends to signify the existence of the value of God as its principle. He also notes that God is the Basic Principle of Islamic Communication, the core element referring to the spiritual dimension. It is exciting to discuss because during this time, generally, Islamic Communication scholars or experts only stress the normative aspects as ethics without alluding to the spiritual size. They dominantly discuss the ethical to do as Moslems in daily communication with others. One of which is Hamid Mowlana (1996 and 2007), in a previous period highlighting tauhid as the principle, but still, the substance does not describe the spiritual dimension of the Creator. Accordingly, this qualitative research was designed by the library method analyzing some kinds of literature or references to reinforce the view that the basic divinity principle is the Principle of Islamic Communication. Among them is the literature from Zainal Arifin's thoughts, where he clearly explains that the Basic Principles of Islamic Communication are based on the Principles of God. Then the foundations of the Principles of God give birth to reflections in the Muslim community's daily lives. As a result, this research shows that the Divine Principle, where Allah as The Creator, is an absolute element that must exist in every sequence of existing communication elements. This is proven by several sayings of Moslems in their lives reflecting such conditions as the analysis of this study.

Overcoming Disinformation and Hoaxes in Political Communication: Promoting Media and Fact Literacy
  • Jun 29, 2024
  • Journal International Dakwah and Communication
  • Ni Putu Sinta Dewi + 1 more

The digital era has accelerated the spread of information, including disinformation and hoaxes, which often appear in the context of political communication. This phenomenon threatens the integrity of the democratic process and the quality of information received by the public. Therefore, the importance of media literacy and fact verification has become increasingly urgent to ensure that citizens can make decisions based on accurate and reliable information. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various media and factual literacy initiatives in reducing the influence of disinformation and hoaxes among voters. The primary focus is identifying the most effective strategies to promote a critical understanding of media content and the ability to verify facts independently. The methods used were field experiments and surveys conducted in several regions with significant variations in media literacy levels. Respondents were selected through stratified random sampling techniques and divided into a control group and an intervention group that received intensive training on media literacy. The results showed that participants who took media and factual literacy training showed significant improvements in identifying and rejecting misinformation. This group is also more critical of information sources and cross-checks facts more often before sharing content. The research conclusion states that media literacy interventions can significantly reduce the influence of disinformation and hoaxes in political communication. In-depth and continuous education is needed to strengthen citizens' abilities to face information challenges in the digital era. Furthermore, collaboration between sectors, including government, educational institutions, and the media, is important to increase awareness and media literacy skills among the wider community.
