Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the internal-external conversion (IEC) method applied to a medium-thin magnetic lens spectrometer. The application of the internal-external conversion method of determining conversion coefficients and gamma-ray intensities has been limited to double-focusing spectrometers. Photoelectron angular distributions are known only for the double-focusing spectrometers and the distributions are necessary to calculate the factor f, which corrects for the anisotropic distribution of the photoelectrons. A program was started to extend the calculations to lens-type spectrometers so that the IEC method could be widely used. This chapter extends the tests and verifies the general applicability of the IEC method in lens spectrometers. The internal conversion spectrum and the external conversion spectrum are measured. The chapter shows that for different types of lens spectrometers conversion coefficients can be measured with an accuracy of better than 10%.
