Abstract

(1) Rhodanile Blue is a compound of Rhodamine B (amphoteric) and Nile Blue Sulphate (basic). (2) Sections stained in a 1 per cent aqueous solution of it for half an hour show a polychrome picture in red, violet, blue. (3) Experiments invitro et in tela indicate that the colours produced by this dye reflect its activity as a redox substance, one that oxidises some tissue elements, reduces others, and is unaffected by others again. (4) The dye is a distinctive stain for fibrin as well as being a useful stain for the matrix of keratinous tissues, whose birefringence it intensifies somewhat.
