Abstract

One of the premiere large textbooks of cardiology, this book was first published in 1966 and last revised in 1982. The immense success and popularity of this book will certainly continue. The new edition has 8% more pages, 12% more authors, and 27% more chapters. There are now seven editors and 183 authors of this encyclopedic work. The most visible additions to the volume are 18 new chapters about specific techniques and procedures in cardiology, covering topics such as thrombolytic therapy, laser angioplasty, total mechanical heart, esophageal electrocardiography, signal averaged electrocardiography, the internal defibrillator, Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography, digital subtraction angiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and others. There is also a new section about clinical pharmacology, with eight new chapters covering commonly used cardiovascular drugs.
