Abstract

In 18 young adult male and female albino rats, 22 maxillary first molars were extracted in such a manner as to permit the retention of the apical portion of one or more root remnants and bone fragments. The animals were sacrificed at periods ranging from one to one hundred eight days after the extractions. The microscopic findings in the course of healing in the presence of retained root remnants and bone fragments were analyzed.
