Abstract

This paper looks at the recent dispute between Coca-Cola and Sainsbury over the marketing of Sainsbury's Classic Cola. The difficulties that brand leaders face in protecting their products in the United Kingdom are considered and mention is made of new United Kingdom legislation in the pipeline. Finally the legislation enacted by other European Union countries to protect trade marks and brands from unfair competition from look-alikes is examined.
