Abstract
Model of a rectangular patch antenna on composite substrate is analytically developed in this study. The proposed metamaterial is a layer of periodically situated non-magnetic metal cylinders of circular cross section symmetrically imbedded into a dielectric substrate. The model is based on the long-wave approximation of appropriate boundary-value problems stated for Helmholtz equation. The commercial finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) software is used in the study for validating the model. It has been shown that the return loss, efficiency, power gain have improved due to the usage of the metamaterial layer in the substrate.
