Abstract
This work shows the results of a qualitative research that was carried out in San Luis, Argentina. It focuses on how the Gender Identity Law influences the identity construction process of transgender people, (tranvesty, transexual and transgender). The concept of identity is understood as a constant construction process, in which the exchage of self-definitions with other people has a central rol. This construction process is influenced by social interactions that support or negate the gender identity, what causes transgender people to develope more or less confident identities. By acknowledging transgender people by the names they decide to adopt, and offerring them the possibility to adecuate their bodies to fit their self-perceived gender, the Gender Identity Law enables the construction of these identities in a positive way.

Resumen El presente trabajo expone los resultados de una investigación cualitativa acerca de la influencia de la Ley de Identidad de Género en los procesos de construcción de la identidad de las personas trans (travestis, transexuales y transgéneros), en la Provincia de San Luis, en el interior de la Argentina. Se entiende la identidad como una construcción que se realiza constantemente, en la cual el intercambio de definiciones acerca de sí misma/o con las/os demás personas cumple un rol fundamental. La Ley de Identidad de Género reconoce a las personas trans su nombre adoptado y les ofrece la posibilidad de adecuar su aspecto corporal al género autopercibido, apoyando así la construcción de estas identidades, incrementando otros apoyos y disminuyendo los rechazos. Todas estas modificaciones permiten que las personas trans construyan identidades más seguras
