Abstract
The author has reviewed the basic design concepts of central chilled water and heating plants and the gas turbine’s application to the concept. Advantages of the central plant are detailed. Available types of equipment are discussed. Gas turbine applications are thoroughly reviewed with comments regarding actual design experience for several large central plants. The importance of heat recovery equipment selection and application has been thoroughly considered. Two large plants, constructed in California, designed under the engineering supervision of author, are discussed throughly with appropriate comment regarding concept, selection of equipment, expansion potential, thermal efficiency as well as other salient features.
