Abstract

The gas phase i.r. spectra of the nitrosomethanes CClF 2NO, CCl 2FNO, CCl 3NO, CBrCl 2NO, CBr 2ClNO and CBr 3NO in the 3300-200 cm −1 region have been examined. It is concluded that CBr 2ClNO exists in two stable isomeric forms with a cis and gauche conformation respectively. For CCl 3NO and its heavier derivatives, the spectral region between 1000 and 500 cm −1 is likely to contain more fundamental vibrations than can be inferred from the related aldehydes. The spectra are compared and assignments are suggested for the observed bands.
