Abstract

The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of the American Library Association held a program at the 2002 Annual ALA Meeting on “The future of reference services”. Five experts were asked to produce white papers on the topic and post them to the RUSA Web site (www.ala. org.rusa/forums/index.html) before the conference. At the program, the authors gave summaries of their major points and there was a general discussion of the topic. This forum was a part of a larger initiative by RUSA to help shape the future of reference. The papers and responses to them are presented here.
