In Reply.— The Final Epidemic: Physicians and Scientists on Nuclear War appraises the nuclear age from a medical viewpoint and sees a doomsday machine at work powered by competing political, military, and economic forces and an unsuspecting public scarcely aware of the massive destruction that may soon be unleashed on the world. 1 Ambassador Kennan begins the text comparing the public to victims of some sort of hypnotism, like men in a dream, like lemmings heading to the sea, like the children of Hamlin marching blithely along behind their Pied Piper. This book is a basic reference for understanding the technical details of how we may all die in the next world war, truly a to end all wars.
