Abstract

Specific patterns of fatty acid distribution in individual glycolipids were found for marine macrophytes from different phyla: Palmaria stenogona (Rhodophyta), Undaria pinnatifida (Phaeophyta), Ulva fenestrata (Chlorophyta), and Zostera marina (Magnoliophyta). In P. stenogona and U. fenestrata, polyunsaturated fatty acids with maximum unsaturation were concentrated in monogalactosyldiacylglyceride, whereas in U. pinnatifida and Z. marina they were also localized in digalactosyldiacylglyceride. For all species investigated, the highest concentration of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids was found in sulfoquinovosyldiacylglyceride; however, this lipid from Z. marina also had high contents of 18 : 2n-6 and 18 : 3n-3 acids.
