Abstract

This paper describes the extent of both continuous and discrete control of rolling mills and the application of software control to each. Process computers have demonstrated high reliability and contributed significantly to improved control over the rolling process. Programmable logic controllers are extending the application of software control to the discrete drives of the material handling and auxiliary support systems.
