Abstract

In this article, the authors attempt to trace the evolution of the jester in syncretic art forms. The authors give a functional typology of buffoonery in the media space, and also conduct a cultural analysis of the cinematic images of the Joker directed by K. Nolan and T. Phillips. The research question that the authors pose to themselves is the analysis of the transformation of the function of buffoonery in modern culture from the image of a character who is allowed to tell the truth in a playful way to a tragic dark antihero.
