Abstract

In the present work, we consider how to estimate the electromagnetic coupling effect for the transverse isotropic laminated multi-ferroic rectangular plates constituting of piezomagnetic layers and piezoelectric layer. An innovative approach is proposed to solve this problem under the assumption that the distribution of the piezomagnetic layers is small periodic. The main idea of this approach is to use the multi-scale homogenization method to obtain the 1-order approximation solutions of the original model and let the former approximate the latter. And the state-space approach is employed to obtain the exact solution for the homogenized ferroic model. For the case that each repetitive unit constitutes of two layers and the volume ratio of each layer are determined, we give some numerical examples to demonstrate that the presented method is effective in estimating the electromagnetic coupling effect of the above plates where the finite element method is used to simulate both the original model and the 1-order approximation solutions.
