Abstract

After forty-six years the Cold War finally came to an end in 1991. This was a notable event. Many people thought that the fall of Communism would lead to a decrease in the abuse of human rights. However, human rights abuses did not decline after the death of Communism. Some of the totalitarian states such as the former Yugoslavia morphed into authoritarian states where human suffering and misery continued unabated. It soon became obvious that Communist regimes were not the only governments that abused their citizens.
