Abstract
An analytical expression for the response function of a semi-infinite layered electron gas to an electron moving in a vacuum is derived in terms of the induced potential of such a system. The electron energy-loss spectrum for collective excitations of the system is calculated. The authors' results are different from those obtained by Hawrylak and co-workers (1985) and the reason for this is also pointed out.
