Abstract

We consider the problem of a particle confined to a one-dimensional ionic crystal of finite length modeled by repulsive and attractive delta functions and subject to the application of an external constant electric field. Exact expressions for the electric polarizability of the system via the Dalgarno–Lewis technique are obtained in second order perturbation theory. The study uncovers the behavior of the electric polarizability as a function of the number of ions in the system.
