Abstract
By careful control of thermal and surface treatment it has been possible to produce samples of metallic glass with a known volume fraction of surface or bulk crystallites, or a known oxide structure on the surface. The dc magnetic properties have been measured, and the effects of the crystallinity and oxidation are discussed in terms of the stress-magnetostriction coupling and simple models of domain wall pinning and moment rotation.
