This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the PBL model with the STEAM approach to improving students' mathematical modeling ability (MMA) on static electricity material at SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak. This form of research is a pre-experimental design type one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample was class IXB students at SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak (32 people), with a cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used are tests and questionnaires. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Test, Asymp values. Sig (2-tailed) of 0.000 (z< 0.05) shows that there are differences in the mathematical modeling ability of students in the pretest and posttest, with the level of effectiveness being in the very high category (d = 5.49). Based on response questionnaire data, 97% of students responded well to treatment, and 3% were in a suitable category. The study's conclusion is applying the PBL model with a practical STEAM approach to improving the mathematical modeling ability of students on static electricity material at SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak.

Mathematical representation ability is a useful ability for students to develop and optimize their mathematical abilities. The real situation shows that the importance of the ability of mathematical representation has not been matched by student achievement. This condition can be solved by applying problem based learning model to learning in a context that is familiar to students such as scouts. The aim of this research is to explain the ability of students’ mathematical representation through the Problem Based Learning model with scouts context on circle material at SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. This research used qualitative approach with a type of research is descriptive. Data obtained through tests of student’ mathematical representation abilities and interviews. The ability of students’ mathematical representations was analyzed by utilizing the data obtained in student learning in groups through PBL model and data of result test after the application of PBL model. The achievement of this research is the ability of students’ mathematical representation during learning with PBL model in groups is accordance with the ability of students’ mathematical representation after applying the PBL model. The mathematical representation ability of high ability students is able to complete all of the indicators of the mathematical representation ability, students who are in the medium ability only complete indicators of visual and symbolic representation, and low ability students only able to complete indicator of visual representation, although not perfectly.

This study aimsto analyze the effect of PBL and direct learning model towards improvement of mathematical connection ability, anlysed based on the initial mathematics ability of senior high school students at North Bekasi. This is a quasi experiment research. The treatment of PBL model was applied to the experiment class, while the controling class applied a direct learning model. The population of this study was the students of SMA Negeri 4 Kota Bekasi grade XI IPA academic year 2016/2017 whic was a normal population consisting of homogenous students. The instruments used consisted of mathematical connection ability test, initial mathematical ability test. Prior to the aplication, the instrument has passed the test of content validity, construct validity, and empirical validity. Data analysis was done using two-way Anava test and t-test. Based on the research results, it is found that: (1) improvement of student’s mathematical connection ability given PBL model treatment is higher than those direct instruction models was applied. (2) there is an interaction between the learning model and the initial mathematical ability to improve students' mathematical connection ability. (3) the improvement of mathematical connection ability of students with high mathematics initial ability to whom PBL model was applied is higher compared to students who got direct learning model treatment.

This research aims to determine whether there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) instructional model on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar. The study employs a quantitative method, specifically a one-shot case study design. The population consists of all seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar for the academic year 2023/2024, totaling 288 students. Cluster Random Sampling was used to select a sample, and one class, namely VII-1, was chosen for the study, resulting in a total sample size of 30 students. Data were obtained through a questionnaire measuring students' perceptions of the Problem Based Learning model and a mathematics problem-solving ability test for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar. The instruments utilized included 12 closed-ended statement questionnaires with Likert scale measurements and 5 mathematics problem-solving ability test questions. Following calculations, the conclusion drawn from the simple linear regression analysis with the equation Y’ = a + bX = 27.228 + 0.234X is that the calculated t-value (4.196) exceeds the critical t-value (2.042) at a significance level of 0.00 < 0.05. Consequently, the null hypothesis H0 is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis H is accepted. The influence of the Problem Based Learning instructional model on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar is 38.6%. This implies that the Problem Based Learning model can affect students' mathematical problem-solving abilities by 38.6%, while the remaining 61.4% can be influenced by other factors

The mathematical communication ability is an important aspect that every student must have. The Facts show that mathematical communication ability and student confidence are still not optimal. One effort to overcome that is by applying PBL models with brainstorming techniques. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the PBL model with brainstorming techniques on students' mathematical communication ability, describing mathematical communication ability on PBL models with brainstorming techniques in terms of student confidence. This research uses mix method approach with a concurrent embededded model. The population of this study was class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Ungaran in the 2018/2019 school year. The results showed that: PBL models with effective brainstorming techniques for learning as indicated by learning outcomes in aspects of mathematical communication ability achieve mastery learning individually and classically as well as the average learning outcomes in classes using PBL models with brainstorming techniques more than average learning outcomes in the classroom using the PBL model, subjects with high self-esteem can meet all indicators of mathematical communication ability, on subjects with moderate self-confidence only able to meet indicators explaining ideas, situation and mathematical relationship at writing and indicators listening, discussing and writing about mathematics. Whereas for subjects with low levels of self confidence have not been able to meet all indicators of students' mathematical communication ability.

The understanding mathematics ability is important for high school students. However, the reality that happened at SMAN 6 Banda Aceh, students' mathematical understanding still has not reached completeness so that it affects the final score of mathematics subjects. The cause of the problem is due to teacher-centered learning which makes learning meaningless. Therefore, a meaningful learning model is needed so that it can improve students' mathematical understanding ability. One of the meaningful learning models is the Problem Based Learning model. Based on this background, this research aims to:to find out the increase in students' mathematical understanding skills with the Problem Based Learning modelat SMAN 6Banda Aceh. This research is a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class XI IPA-2 as the experimental class consisting of 30 students with the PBL model and class XI IPA-1 as the control class consisting of 29 students with the conventional model. The data collection technique is done by test. The research instrument used is a test of mathematical understanding ability. The data analysis technique used independent sample t-test. The results showed that the value of sig. count more than sig. alpha, so it can be concluded that the increase in students' mathematical understanding through the PBL model is better than the mathematical understanding of students who get conventional learning.
