Abstract

Abstract PET films were compressed uniaxially, below Tg, allowing slip at the surfaces, a treatment similar to cold rolling. The dimensional changes produced were fully recoverable on heating above Tg. The compressed polymer showed anomalous thermal behavior near Tg and exhibited a lower cold crystallization temperature and a greater low-temperature expansion coefficient perpendicular to the plane of the film.
