Abstract

The effect of the quadratic spin-orbit interaction on nuclear structure is tested. The quadratic spin-orbit terms in the Hamada-Johnston and Yale potentials are used to calculate the two-body matrix elements of identical equivalent particles in the f7/2 shell. The results show that the effect of the quadratic spin-orbit interaction on the spectra is, in general, larger than that of the Coulomb interaction, and cannot be neglected.
