Abstract

The change of the structural and phase composition of the austenitic steel 12Cr18Ni10Ti is studied after nitriding in the plasma of a non-self-sustained low-pressure arc discharge at different temperatures. It is shown that, as a result of ion nitriding, it is possible to increase the microhardness and wear resistance of the investigated steel. The basic parameters of the nitriding process (temperature and composition of the gas mixture) that make it possible to improve the mechanical properties without significant changes in magnetic characteristics are selected.
