Abstract

The effects of swift (∼ 10 MeV/u) heavy (Z ≥ 6) ion irradiation on the Curie transition of ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) copolymers are studied by X-ray diffraction, permittivity measurements and differential scanning calorimetry. The irradiation leads to a decrease of the Curie temperature whatever the ion is. However, ions with high energy losses (dE/dx) induce — for a fixed irradiation dose — a higher temperature shift.
