Abstract

The sulfur tolerance over palladium supported on pure alumina and on alumina modified with barium of catalytic combustion of methane is investigated. Characterization of the catalysts is performed by, XRD and H2-TPR techniques. Barium nitrate as the precursor to the formation of Ba(NO2)2 species can inhibit the SO2 and SO3 overflow from Al2(SO3)3 and Al2(SO4)3 sulfate to the adjacent PdO. Ba content on the performance of the catalyst resistance to sulfur poisoning has important implications. 0.7% Ba-1% Pd/Al2O3 catalyst resistance to sulfur poisoning property is close to that of high load capacity 5% Pd/Al2O3 catalyst.
