Abstract

When a series of Asian countries got into a serious economic crisis in the middle of last year, it took most observers by surprise. Current models for the explanation of currency crises are indeed inadequate in this instance. Do we need a new theory, or can existing models be expanded to enable us to explain and predict events such as those in Asia?
