Abstract

The issue of international migration - the presence of settled foreign populations and new entries of migrants - appears to be among the major concerns in the opinion of European countries. This is somehow paradoxical: taking the EC as a whole, the total foreign population amounts to a little more than 13 million people, of whom 8 are non-EC nationals, i.e. 2.5% of the total population of the EC. In this paper, we intend to analyze the dynamics of international migration in Europe, in order to help understand the issues raised by the current situation.
