The Dynamics of Communication Networks of Religious Educational Institutions and Broadcast Media in the Creative Industry
This study analyzes the dynamics of the communication network between the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program (KPI) of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and broadcasting media institutions and identifies the obstacles faced in dealing with the creative industry. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed using Rogers & Kincaid's communication network theory. The results of the study indicate that the communication network between the KPI Study Program and the broadcasting industry is still hierarchical, with a chain communication pattern that limits the flow of information and direct access of students to the industry. The main obstacles found include the lack of opportunities for field practice, limited internship quotas, and the lack of industry involvement in developing a curriculum based on market needs. In addition, the formal cooperation that has been established between the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program and the broadcasting industry is still not optimal in creating a flexible and responsive communication system to the development of digital technology. This study recommends strengthening the academic-industry communication strategy through the development of more open communication patterns, such as star communication patterns, in order to increase direct interaction between students, lecturers, and the broadcasting industry. This effort is expected to strengthen the role of the KPI Study Program in producing graduates who are adaptive, innovative, and ready to compete in the creative and broadcasting industries.

This study aims to describe the pattern of Islamic communication in a multicultural society in Purwokerto. As a city with ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity, Purwokerto presents challenges as well as opportunities for the development of inclusive Islamic communication. A qualitative approach with phenomenological methods is used to understand the deep meaning behind communication practices applied by religious leaders, worshippers, and interfaith communities. The results of the study show that the pattern of Islamic communication in Purwokerto is integrative and participatory, combining a formal approach through lectures and recitations with informal patterns in daily interactions. Values such as tabayyun, husnudzon, and consensus deliberation are the basic principles in reducing the potential for social conflict. The digital era has also affected the transformation of da'wah communication patterns, as seen from the use of social media, podcasts, and WhatsApp groups that facilitate the spread of religious messages. Challenges still arise, especially related to religious hoaxes, group exclusivity, and low digital literacy of the community. This research emphasizes the importance of synergy between religious leaders, society, and the government to maintain social harmony. It is hoped that an adaptive, dialogical, and humanist Islamic communication pattern can be a bridge of tolerance in the multicultural society of Purwokerto.

The author contends that academically, Islamic propagation can be integrated with communication science as Islamic communication. Islamic communication as a process signifies as delivering the message of Islamic tenets through various media, the main characters of which are persuasive and rational calling peoples to return to their nature and potential. Thus, the alumni of the Islamic propagation then may gain the same status as communication science alumni.

BackgroundPaternalism/overprotection limits communication between healthcare professionals and patients and does not promote shared therapeutic decision-making. In the global north, communication patterns have been regulated to promote autonomy, whereas in the global south, they reflect the physician’s personal choices. The goal of this study was to contribute to knowledge on the communication patterns used in clinical practice in Mexico and to identify the determinants that favour a doctor–patient relationship characterized by low paternalism/autonomy.MethodsA self-report study on communication patterns in a sample of 761 mental healthcare professionals in Central and Western Mexico was conducted. Multiple ordinal logistic regression models were used to analyse paternalism and associated factors.ResultsA high prevalence (68.7% [95% CI 60.0–70.5]) of paternalism was observed among mental health professionals in Mexico. The main determinants of low paternalism/autonomy were medical specialty (OR 1.67 [95% CI 1.16–2.40]) and gender, with female physicians being more likely to explicitly share diagnoses and therapeutic strategies with patients and their families (OR 1.57 [95% CI 1.11–2.22]). A pattern of highly explicit communication was strongly associated with low paternalism/autonomy (OR 12.13 [95% CI 7.71–19.05]). Finally, a modifying effect of age strata on the association between communication pattern or specialty and low paternalism/autonomy was observed.ConclusionsAmong mental health professionals in Mexico, high paternalism prevailed. Gender, specialty, and a pattern of open communication were closely associated with low paternalism/autonomy. Strengthening health professionals’ competencies and promoting explicit communication could contribute to the transition towards more autonomist communication in clinical practice in Mexico. The ethical implications will need to be resolved in the near future.
