Abstract

Alloreactive T-cells may be activated via a direct or an indirect antigen presentation pathway. T-cells recognise foreign HLA molecules directly on donor cells in the direct presentation pathway, while in the indirect presentation pathway alloantigens are processed and presented in HLA of self APC. We questioned whether the frequency of IFN-γ producing cells determined by Elispot-assay is a good tool to monitor the contribution of the direct and indirect presentation pathway during acute rejection.
