Abstract
This paper mainly discusses the planetary gear trains design, and uses the optical fiber polishers as an example of application. Firstly, displacement, velocity, and acceleration equitations for the grinding track are derived in order to find out how design parameters affect grinding characteristics. Then, based on the grinding velocity, the velocity deviation percentage ( Vdp) is calculated, which is an important design parameter. Another important design parameter is the polishing area percentage ( App). In the paper, we select two planetary gear trains: the first produces epicycloidal tracks on the planetary gear surface; the second produces hypocycloidal tracks on the planetary gear surface. The paper analyzes these two planetary gear trains in order to find their optimized designs as fiber polishers. The project provides application experience in the design of transmission systems.
