Abstract

The four main techniques used to describe signals and systems are reviewed: time domain impulse response, and Fourier, Laplace and z-transform methods. The design of simple digital filters is discussed and it is shown how z-transform methods lead to the construction of convenient recurrence relationships and the estimation of frequency response and mid-band gain.
