Abstract

System block diagrams for peak current-mode control of a buck-boost converter with and without an input filter are derived in this paper separately. The system block diagram with an input filter shows that the new current loop contains an input voltage feed-forward loop as a sub-loop. Also, the block diagram with current feedback generates a new transfer function due to the input filter. Thus, a new system block diagram can be derived which includes the current loop influenced by the input filter and control-to-output transfer function. Accordingly, this paper proposes four design criteria of the input filters for a buck-boost converter to prevent severe influence on the system dynamic performance. Also there are two conditions identified which will cause system oscillation.
