Abstract
ABSTRACTThe all‐sky survey of Sc galaxies with estimated redshift–independent distances presented by Haynes et al. (1993) is used to map the peculiar velocity field in the local universe. After suitable correction for Malmquist and selection biases, the resulting peculiar velocities are used to estimate the mass density in the local universe using the POTENT method (Dekel 1994). The resulting density field is compared with the distribution of galaxies.
